Y2K

We are days away from the year 2000, or are we? By many calenders we are not. The Hebrew calendar has the year at 5760. Thus the millennium prophecies of the end of the world and such are likely no more than rumors, but the effects on computers is very real. I have are ready heard stories on the news of people being summons to jury duty in the year 1900. I believe like Y2K will bring us some computer-related inconveniences, none of them major. I don't believe planes will fall out of the sky. I'm betting my life on it, and flying on January 1, 2000.

Software manufacturers are making large amounts of money from the Y2K scare. Nobody can tell me that they didn't know the year 2000 was approaching and chose not to write their software to be compliant in order to be able to market in the fixes. This would follow the big picture marketing strategy that we all face. Buying software now and six months pay again for the updated version to fix what was wrong on the previous version we paid for, under the guise of new features, of which there are usually a few. Let's face it we are software guinea pigs.

Y2k is just another marketing strategy of the big fish. Any problems or inconveniences that we have in the new year will be by design, because there is money to be made from fixing the intentionally defective software sold over the past years. How many of the programs on your computer are Y2k compliant? Have you checked them all? I imagined Y2k will cost almost all of us something, but don't expect the world to end, mayhem, or anything more than inconvenience, and spent money.

I would like to wish everyone happy holidays and a great new year. That peace on earth, consideration of others, and happiness prevail in the new millennium.

The Put Up Or Shut Up Argument In Gun Control

What is not being mentioned in the Main Stream Media is that hunters, many of who use semi automatic rifles with high capacity magazines provide more food for the homeless than any other group of people.

Front page of the Houston Chronicle dated February 6, 2013 ran a headline, “Harris County has plan to bring home the bacon”  The feral hog population in Texas is out of control and in an effort to reduce the population they plan to capture and process hogs to feed the homeless.  In Texas tons of pork is donated to homeless shelters and organizations that feed the hungry.

Hunters have been quietly donating tons of meat to organizations that feed the hungry for an unspoken number of years.  Groups like Hunters harvest and Hunters for Hungry have been gathering meat donations from hunters via local processing plants.  Groups like these are supplied large volumes of game meat from hunting members of organizations like the Safari Club International.  A member of the Houston Safari Club reported that hunters in an effort to manage game populations need to cull the herds to insure the health of the animals.  This creates harvesting in excess of what the hunters can eat.  This led to the donating of meat by the tons to the hungry as in homeless shelters for example.

Many are calling for gun control base on their emotions but the facts weigh in on the side of gun owners.  All the anti gun arguers combined don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to what they do to help the less fortunate in comparison to gun owning hunters in this country.  Gun owning hunters clearly let their actions and deeds speak for themselves instead of knee jerk emotions sparked by a tragedy that happen to involve a gun.

When the anti gun whiners do for the less fortunate as much as the gun owning hunters do then they may earn the right to be vocal and be seen as having a bit of validity in their arguments.   The righteous point always prevails in the end.
